TOEIC® Speaking and Writing tests
TOEIC® Speaking and Writing test questions are based on real-life work settings typically encountered in an international business environment (meetings, travel, telephone conversations, etc). The TOEIC Speaking and Writing tests are Internet-based tests. The two sections are independent of each other, and test takers receive a separate score for each.
• The speaking test— based on a variety of tasks that measure a broad range of speaking skills. This test lasts approximately 20 minutes, and measures skills such as reading a text aloud (tests pronunciation) describing a picture (tests vocabulary/grammar,) and expressing an opinion (tests fluency/extended discourse). • The writing test—this test lasts approximately 1 hour, and measures a range of writing skills, including responding to a written text (tests vocabulary/grammar) to writing an opinion essay (tests coherence and organisation, from sentence to passage level).
Test-taker responses are assigned randomly and anonymously to trained raters. Several raters score different parts of each test via ETS’ Online Scoring Network™ for maximum objectivity and reliability.
