In general, Educational Testing Service (ETS) does not collect, store, use or disclose personally identifying information except in very specific instances, such as, for example, when you register for a test. Whenever we collect such information, you will have a choice regarding whether to provide it, how it will be used, and to whom it will be disclosed. The instances in which ETS does collect and use this information are specifically described in this privacy policy.

Respect of your privacy
ETS believes your right to privacy is important. To run an efficient, effective service, however, we need to collect and use certain information about our users. ETS values its users and their concerns about privacy. To this end, ETS engages in consistent information practices and uses its best efforts to make clear disclosures regarding those practices. This policy is part of that effort.

What does this privacy policy cover and why ?
This privacy policy applies to collection, use, storage and disclosure of information by ETS. If there are any exceptions, we will clearly disclose them prior to collecting any information, and will give you an opportunity to choose not to participate or provide the information.

What information does ETS collect and how is it used?
In general, you can browse ETS web site without disclosing any information about yourself. Submitting personal information on our site is optional. ETS may collect any or all of the following three types of information: (1) traffic data, (2) cookies, (3) contact information and other personally identifying information. ETS’s collection and use of each type of data is described below, as well as the ways (if any) in which the data may be shared with third parties.

(1) Traffic data
Data about traffic and usage of our web site is not identifying in itself or identifiable supplemented or combined with personally identifying or identifiable information.

When you visit any page on our web site, we use standard web server log files to monitor and evaluate our site’s technical capability and performance. We use this information to find out how many people visit our web site, to determine the areas of greatest interest on our site, and to make improvements to our site. Thus, we are able to provide our users with best quality products and services.
ETS may share information it collects with certain selected third parties, but only in aggregated, anonymous form. For example, we may tell an advertiser that a certain number of people visited a certain area on our web site.

(2) Cookies

If you register for a test or create an online account on our site, however, you must enable cookies to access certain information. Unless you register for a test or create an online account, cookies do not contain and cannot be associated with the personally identifiable information we collect.

ETS may share information about usage of the site with third parties, but only in aggregated, anonymous form. In the course of serving advertisements to this site, our third-party advertiser may place or recognize a unique “cookie” on your browser.

(3) Contact information and other personally identifying information
ETS collects and stores the personal information you provide voluntarily when using our web site such as survey information and/or site registrations, online test registration information, online order information, full name, home address, e-mail address, telephone number, the test you are registering for, the test date, payment information, and online account information.

Whenever you provide such personal information, we will treat that information in accordance with this policy. ETS may disclose and use personal information collected about you within its own services for the purpose of internal business administration and analysis.

We will not rent, trade or sell your data to others.

This personal information are stored or used in connection with the completion of any registration, purchases, or other transactions you request online. We also use your personal information to notify you about updates, products, services, and/or special offers from ETS, its affiliates, and selected third parties, ask you to participate in brief surveys.

We disclose your personal information to certain third parties to provide the products and services you have requested online. For example, when you register for a test, we will provide certain registration information to companies that administer the tests in your area. We may also disclose information to third parties that provide administrative or processing services for us, for example, printing, mailing, and payment processing. Our contract with these third parties prohibits them from using your personal information except to provide the product or service you requested. If you ask us to, we will disclose your test scores to schools and others.

Your personal identifying information will not be transferred to countries outside the European Union.

Our web site may contain links to other sites. ETS does not control the privacy policies or practices of these web sites. You should review those policies before providing any information. ETS is not responsible for the content or practices of any linked web sites, and provides these links solely for the convenience and information of our visitors.

Choices
When you register for a test online or create an account, you will have the ability to opt in of receiving certain communications from ETS, including voicemail or e-mail. If you opt in at registration, but later decide that you would prefer not to receive further communication, please contact us. However, note that ETS may still send e-mail or call you in order to provide a product or service that you request.

Security
To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the appropriate use of information, ETS has put in place physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information it collects online. However, data security is a constantly evolving art and science. You should consider any communication that you transmit to ETS (such as data, questions or answers, comments, or suggestions) as non-confidential, and agree that ETS will not be liable or responsible if information that belongs to you is intercepted and used by an unintended recipient.

If you register for an online account, you will be asked to select a password to help protect your information. These passwords help us verify your identity before granting access or making corrections to any of your personal information. You should never disclose your password to anyone. ETS will never ask you for your password in an unsolicited phone call or e-mail. You are responsible for maintaining the secrecy of your passwords and any account information.

When you provide credit card information, it is transmitted using encryption Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology to help prevent unauthorized access to or misuse of that information.

Changes
ETS may change this policy to respond to new laws, regulations, technology, or for other business reasons. Please check this policy from time to time to review any such changes.

By disclosing your personal information to ETS, you consent to the collection, storage and processing of your personal information in the manner set out in this privacy policy.

How can I access, oppose or correct any personally identifying information about me?
